Traffic report for August: Up to 100,000 passengers per day

The airports Tegel and Schönefeld recorded a total of 2,325,666 passengers in August; 8.6 per cent more than in the same month the previous year. A total of 16,600,533 passengers were handled between January and August 2012; 5.7 per cent more than in the same period the previous year.

Airport CEO Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz: "Air traffic in the capital region will remain a growth market. Despite the initial scepticism, Schönefeld and Tegel Airport are able to meet the growing demand. Naturally, we are looking forward to the opening of Berlin Brandenburg Airport on 27 October 2013. BER is fundamental to successfully developing air traffic in the capital region in the coming years."

652,128 passengers were recorded at Schönefeld Airport last month; representing a slight decrease of 0.8 per cent on August 2011. In the first eight months of the year, 4,754,394 passengers were recorded in Schönefeld (+1.2 per cent).

Tegel recorded 1,673,538 passengers in August; 12.7 per cent more than in the same month the previous year. A total of 11,846,139 passengers were handled in Tegel between January and August (+7.6 per cent).

The total number of flight movements in August was up 4.8 per cent on the year at 21,470 take-offs and landings. At 3,108 tonnes, air freight increased considerably in August by 26.3 per cent. All values for this month are based on preliminary figures.
