Concerning today’s coverage of the duration of flight operations in Tegel

The airport operating company would like to clarify that there have been no new developments or decisions regarding the issue of how long Tegel Airport will continue to operate.

The airport operator’s Chief Executive Officer, Hartmut Mehdorn, stated: "In yesterday’s meeting of the Brandenburg Airport Committee I presented a number of topics which we are currently discussing very openly and without blinkers or restrictions to ensure that we establish the best possible conditions for aviation in the region. Amongst other issues, this also included the refurbishment of the runways at Schönefeld by 2017/2018 at the latest. The core of our considerations is and always will be how we can open BER as swiftly and securely as possible. It was for this reason that I launched the SPRINT action plan. We will adhere to the schedule arranged with the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Matthias Platzeck, and the shareholders: By this autumn we will present an overall concept detailing the opening of BER including the transfer of operations from Tegel and Schönefeld to BER with all relevant timeframes and cost plans.”
