Traffic Report May 2013: Nearly 10 million passengers in five months

Air traffic in Berlin and Brandenburg continued to grow in May. In the first five months of the year a total of 9,923,456 passengers used the airports Schönefeld and Tegel, which is a year-on-year increase of 3.8 per cent.

From January to May, there were 7,345,386 passengers at Tegel, which is an increase of 8.3 per cent over the same period of the previous year. In the same period, 2,578,070 passengers used Schönefeld Airport, a drop of 7.3 per cent compared with the first five months of 2012.

The number of flight movements decreased between January and May to a total of 93,928 take-offs and landings, which is a year-on-year decrease of 1.4 per cent. In Schönefeld the number of flight movements decreased by 11.4 per cent compared with the previous year, to 25,705. In Tegel there was a slight year-on-year increase of 3.1 per cent with 68,223 flight movements in the first five months of the year.

Between January and May 2013, 12,599 tons of air freight were registered at the airports in Schönefeld and Tegel, which is a year-on-year increase of 0.5 per cent.

Traffic report for May:

In May 2013, a total of 2,335,316 passengers used the airports Schönefeld and Tegel, a year-on-year increase of 5.4 per cent. In Tegel, 1,731,644 passengers were counted in May 2013, which is an increase of 9.6 per cent over May 2012. At Schönefeld Airport 603,672 passengers used the airport in the past month, a decrease of 5.2 per cent over the same period of last year.

The total number of flight movements in May was 21,146 take-offs and landings, a drop of 2.9 per cent compared with the previous year. Air freight in May rose to 2,730 tons, an increase of 4.6 per cent.
