A successful 2013: Berlin Airports’ 4.2 percent growth bucks the market trend10.01.2014
Never before have Berlin's Schönefeld and Tegel airports been able to welcome as many passengers as they did in 2013. From January to December, 26,319,155 passengers took off and landed there. This represents a growth of 4.2 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. Tegel handled 19,591,849 passengers (+7.9 per cent) and Schönefeld 6,727,306 (-5.2 per cent).
The number of flight movements in the January to December period fell to a total of 240,030 take-offs and landings, which represents a decrease of 1.2 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. At Schönefeld, the number of flight movements fell to 65,267. This corresponds to a decrease of 9.0 per cent compared to the previous year. At Tegel there was a slight increase of 2.1 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 174,763 flight movements were recorded at Tegel from January to December.
Air freight at Schönefeld and Tegel airports during the period of January to December 2013 amounted to 35,239 tonnes, which represents an increase of 9.6 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.

Contrary to the restrained growth at other airports, our core business is doing very well. In 2014 we will continue to concentrate on the work at BER. The mission for all parties involved at the airport company and at the construction and planning firms is clear: we will commit all our energy to pressing ahead with the swift and safe completion of BER. Everything must submit to this objective.”
The month of December 2013
In December a total of 1,934,198 passengers used Schönefeld and Tegel airports (+8.4 per cent). At Schönefeld Airport, 520,571 passengers were recorded last month. That is 4.8 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. At Tegel, 1,413,627 passengers were recorded in December, 9.8 per cent more than in December 2012.
The total number of flight movements in December amounted to 17,775 take-offs and landings, which represents an increase of 5.1 per cent compared to the same period the previous year. The amount of air freight carried in December increased by 34.4 per cent to 3,137 tonnes.
