A visit to Pippi Longstocking: New service from Berlin-Tegel to Kalmar in southern Sweden15.08.2014
As of 1 September, the airline bmi regional will be flying nonstop to Kalmar in southern Sweden six times a week. This is the first time that the airline is including Berlin in its schedule. Flights will be departing from Berlin-Tegel for the southern Swedish coastal town every day apart from Saturdays, with a flight time of around 70 minutes. bmi regional is using a 37-seat Embraer 135 aircraft for this new route.
“We are pleased to open this new route from Berlin to Kalmar. bmi regional has already gained experience in the German market and supplies a range of routes there, including services from Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich to Bristol and from Frankfurt to Karlstad in Sweden. This new route from Berlin to Kalmar will strengthen bmi regional’s presence in Germany and Sweden and make the Kalmar-Öland region more accessible to both business travellers and holidaymakers who are flying from Berlin,” emphasizes Cathal O’Connell, Chief Executive of bmi regional.
“With this first direct service to the southern Swedish city of Kalmar we can now offer our passengers a further popular holiday destination,” says Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. “I am delighted to welcome bmi regional as a new airline at Berlin-Tegel and wish them many happy landings.”
Kalmar is located in the popular Småland holiday region in the south of Sweden. With its colourful wooden houses, this picture-book landscape is familiar as the world-famous setting for Astrid Lindgren’s stories. In Vimmerby theme park, visitors can find out more about Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga und Karlsson-on-the-Roof. What’s more, the surrounding countryside features extensive forests and crystal-clear lakes as well as white sandy beaches and over 10,000 small islands and reefs. The offshore island of Öland is a UNESCO world heritage site and one of Sweden’s most popular holiday destinations.
The independent airline bmi regional operates over 300 scheduled flights a week with a purely jet-powered fleet, and has been named the most punctual airline in the UK for the ninth consecutive year. Its extensive route network comprises over 20 destinations in the UK and Europe. Tickets for the new Berlin - Kalmar service can now be booked at all travel agents or at www.flybmi.de.
