Terminal closure reversed: Technology platforms stable

The Building Regulation Authorities (BOA) in the district of Dahme-Spreewald has lifted the closure imposed on the terminal at Berlin Brandenburg BER Airport last Monday. This comes following Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH submitting the requisite verifications of stability for the 15 technology platforms with smoke extraction fans. These documents provide evidence of the stability displayed by the technical platforms, according to which those bearing the lighter smoke extraction fans in the front area of the terminal (check-in hall) are stable and operable without requiring any further structural modifications. For the technology platforms with the heavier smoke extraction fans at the back area of the terminal (marketplace), FBB has undertaken initial safety measures on the building side, i.e. additional securing of the fans, and adapted the fire safety concept accordingly, making this terminal area accessible again for construction work. At the same time, the static engineers are collaborating with BER planners to draw up the final solution for the five technology platforms featuring the heavy smoke extraction fans so that they are not only stable, but can also be commissioned safely as planned.
