Passenger figures rise by 16 per cent:
Schönefeld records particularly strong growth
Passenger figures at Schönefeld and Tegel Airports rose by 16.1 per cent in February 2016. A total of 2,205,795 passengers departed and arrived in Berlin. Schönefeld registered 791,858 passengers (+47.4%); the comparable figure for Tegel was 1,413,937 passengers (+3.7%).
Airport CEO Dr Karsten Mühlenfeld: “The first two months of the year are already indicative of continued growth at the Berlin-Brandenburg airport site. Schönefeld developed particularly well. We will be further expanding the airport this year with the aim of creating sufficient space for passengers.”
A total of 20,473 aircraft movements were recorded at the two airports in February, 14.7 per cent more than in the same month last year. The number of aircraft movements at Schönefeld rose to 6,709, an increase of 31.7% in comparison with the same period of the previous year. 13,764 aircraft movements were recorded in Tegel, 7.9 per cent more take-offs and landings than in February 2015.
3,290 tonnes of air cargo were recorded at Schönefeld and Tegel Airports in February 2016, representing a 4.9% decrease over the same period last year.
A total of 4,240,211 passengers departed from and arrived in Berlin during the first two months of 2016, 14.4% more than in the same period last year. Aircraft movements rose by 11.9 per cent to 40,343.
