Fly to Chișinău with Wizz Air: New route from Schönefeld to the capital of the Republic of Moldova

30.03.2017

The Hungarian airline Wizz Air continues to expand its range of destinations from Berlin-Schönefeld. As from today, the airline will fly every Thursday and Sunday to Chișinău. The flight time to the capital of the Republic of Moldova is about three hours. The city has now become the fifth destination to make it on Wizz Air’s itinerary from Berlin. The airline began flying from Schönefeld in March 2016. Its other routes are Skopje in Macedonia, Cluj-Napoca in Romania, Kutaisi in Georgia and Tuzla in Bosnia-Herzegovina. From 18th June, the airline will also start flying twice a week to Lwiw (Lemberg) in West Ukraine. All routes are served by Airbus A320 aircraft.

Chișinău – modern meets Soviet charm

Although Chișinău is one of Eastern Europe’s unknown destinations, it has a host of attractions to offer. In particular, culture lovers will enjoy a trip to the metropolis nestled within the interior of the Republic of Moldova. Aside from the national theatre and the state opera, the city is also home to ten other playhouses that host classical Russian drama and also deal with socio-political subjects affecting Eastern Europe. A visit to Chișinău is also a journey into the past. One example is the Boulevard Stefan cel Mare, which is located near the Arcul de Triumf, the city’s triumphal arch. Like many great streets in Chișinău, the Boulevard is lined with tall poplar trees, which were already gracing the city’s streets back in the days of Stalin. Numerous parks, such as Stefan cel Mare Park or Dendarium Park, offer respite and a chance to unwind.

The Republic of Moldova

Travellers to the Republic of Moldova can look forward to a destination far from the mass tourism treadmill. Centrally located, the city is the perfect starting point for discovering the historic and cultural diversity of the country. Caves, cloisters, ancient castles and untouched landscapes are just waiting to be discovered. The Republic of Moldova is also famous for its fine wines. In particular, Cricova, named after the city near Chișinău, is known amongst connoisseurs as a wine of exquisite quality. The city of Cricova is also home to an underground tunnel system, which houses the world’s largest collection of wine.
