FBB stocks up vehicle fleet:
30 fully electric BMW i3’s available for employees

27.04.2017

Over the coming months, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH will be stocking up its vehicle fleet. Since 25.04.2017 the first five of 30 fully electric BMW i3 (94 Ah) cars have been available for all employees. Together with 30 economical BMW 216i Active Tourers they form FBB’s new car pool. The 60 leasing vehicles will replace all 71 previous car pool vehicles by the end of July 2017.

Professor Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “For years, Berlin’s airports have had electric cars and work vehicles in daily use. With the introduction of the new BMW i3, it’s time to increase our environmental awareness and our level of sustainability.”

“With the electric BMW i3, we offer a variable and very flexible vehicle, which is more economical and cost-effective”, says Christian Falkinger, Head of Sales Service and Special Vehicles at BMW Deutschland.
Aside from the improved environmental impact and CO2 reduction, the usage profile of the 2000 employees was a decisive factor in the selection of the electric vehicle. With a range of up to 300 km, they are particularly well suited for the frequent short journeys within the metropolitan region. At the start of 2017, FBB restructured its previous decentralised vehicle fleet management, making it a centrally organised car pool. This has already led to savings of eleven vehicles. This also contributes to greater cost-effectiveness and lower consumption.

FBB has invested EUR 240,000 in the required recharging infrastructure. Since mid-April, employees have been able to recharge their vehicles at a total of four carpool sites at Tegel, Schönefeld (two sites) and BER. The modern quick charging stations each feature two connection ports. Thirty minutes of charging is enough for about 90 km, and after 3.5 hours the batteries are fully charged.
