FBB presents planned schedule for completion of construction of BER’s main terminal

31.08.2017

The ongoing construction work and the preparations of the subsequent planning authorisation and operational documentation are entering the final phase. After intensive discussions with the key contract partners, performed on the basis of the necessary planning or equally on the basis of the work still outstanding, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH has now fixed a schedule for the binding completion of construction, as agreed within the basic principles.

The schedule includes both the residual work and the subsequent expert assessments, which form the prerequisites for the formal start of the control and principle inspection at BER as required by the planning law. The schedule envisages a completion of these activities before the end of August 2018. This work will be followed by the intensive testing of the final official control and principal inspection, group tests for operational processes, and ORAT (Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer) commissioning.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO, emphasized that this decisive phase, from now until final completion of construction and technical commissioning of the new airport, is of great public interest and therefore, the steps up to and including its final completion must be explained clearly. "This year, FBB will state the opening date of BER. The prerequisite for this is that the input parameters should be valid and that all service providers involved in the project respect the schedule as agreed. This schedule, up to the start of the formal control and principle inspection, required under planning law, therefore forms a binding basis of work for all those participating in the project including construction companies."

In March 2017, FBB introduced quality control and quality assurance of its BER scheduling in order to independently assess and control the progress of construction, which is used to monitor and control both the plausibility of individual plans as well as their interaction.
