Airport Social Services

Airport Social Services at Tegel is the contact point for travellers, visitors and those meeting people, who require assistance. The service is provided by IN VIA, the Katholischer Verband für Mädchen- und Frauensozialarbeit für das Erzbistum Berlin e.V. The mission of Airport Social Services is to help all people at the airport in need of assistance. This could be, for example, people experiencing acute crisis situations or suffering from psychiatric problems. People with disabilities, unaccompanied minors or migrants can also turn to the members of Airport Social Services.

The offer of assistance doesn’t just go out to airline passengers, but also to airport workers and anyone else spending time there. Airport Social Services are currently based at Tegel. In case of particular need, and after prior agreement, help can also be organised at Schönefeld.

IN VIA seeks to unburden those seeking assistance and offer them a safe haven away from the hustle and bustle of the airport. The counselling and referral services are intended, in particular, to allow people to help themselves. For example, a first step may be to contact friends and family or an appropriate institution. Airport Social Services maintains an extensive network of qualified counsellors and advice centres throughout the city. This allows people requiring assistance to be referred to the appropriate institutions, without fuss and as needed.
