Start your holiday relaxed

12.06.2019

More than five million passengers will fly to and from Berlin via Schönefeld and Tegel during the summer holidays, around 432,000 of which will be on the first holiday weekend (20-23 June 2019). It will be particularly busy in the course of the holiday season on the weekends (Fridays to Sundays) as well as during the entire third week of the holidays, with a notable peak on the weekend of 5-7 July 2019, as the first wave of return journeys will take place.

In order to start the summer holidays as relaxed as possible despite the significantly increased volume of traffic, the airport company requests that passengers prepare for their flight in the best way possible. In addition to checking the information on local conditions at the airport or checking in online, which many airlines offer for free, passengers should also ensure they pack their luggage correctly, including their hand luggage, as well as checking the travel documents of all travellers.

Passengers are requested to inform themselves about their flight status before travelling, either online or by telephone, and to take advantage of online check-in. As the intensive summer holiday traffic will affect all areas of the airport, there will be waiting times for check-in, passport checks and security checks. Passengers are also requested to prepare themselves for this.

The most important travel advice, at a glance:

  • Allow enough time to arrive at the airport.
  • If possible, travel to the airport using public transport.
  • Book your parking space in advance to avoid wasting time looking for a space and to reduce the traffic at the airport entrances.
  • Arrive at the airport (in the terminal) at least two hours before departure.
  • After checking in and dropping off your bags, head to security controls as soon as possible.
  • Keep an eye on announcements and push notifications from your airline.
