Odessa: Pearl of the Black Sea

This winter, two airlines will be connecting Berlin with Odessa on the Black Sea. Ryanair and Wizz Air both fly twice a week to the Ukrainian port city. Ryanair takes off from Berlin’s Tegel Airport every Monday and Friday at 11:00 am, landing just three hours later in Odessa at 2:50 pm local time. Going the opposite direction, the plane lifts off on the same day at 3:25 pm, landing back in Tegel at 5:15 pm. For those travelling from Berlin’s Schönefeld Airport, Wizz Air flies to the Black Sea every Tuesday and Saturday, setting off at 12:15 pm and landing in Odessa at 3:35 pm. Wizz Air’s colourful planes always set off from Odessa Airport at 10:20 am local time, arriving in Berlin at 11:45 am. The time difference from Berlin to Odessa is plus one hour.

Since its founding by Catherine the Great well over 200 years ago, Ukraine’s third largest city has been shaped by many different nationalities into what it is today. This lively and diverse city is not just best suited for a city break, but also as a starting point for a trip around the Black Sea. Must-sees for those visiting the city are the Potemkin Stairs (known from Sergej Eisenstein’s film “Battleship Potemkin”), the boulevard “Primorski bulvar” along the port, or the shopping and strolling promenade “Deribasovskaja”. Also worth a visit is Odessa’s opera house; it’s said to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Yet the allure of this bright cosmopolitan port city isn’t just in its rich and diverse architecture and attractions, but also in its sunlight hours, its white beaches, and in the gentle coast of the Gulf of Odessa.
