A City Directly at the Airport

The demand was high, the event so well attended, that there was not one free seat left and visitors had to stay stood up. On the 8th of October, Flughafengesellschaft Berlin Brandenburg invited investors and project developers to an informational talk on real estate development at BER at the Expo Real trade fair in Munich. In particular, the talk addressed features of the scheduled district development in the immediate airport vicinity. The discussion went on for an hour and a half about the investor’s and developer’s expectations, ideas, and aims. This marked FBB’s start for marketing their landside real estate at Expo Real, a year before the opening of BER. On the previous day, airport CEO Engelbert Lütke Daldrup introduced BER as an investment location to trade professionals as part of a podium discussion.

Leading Real Estate Trade Fair

Expo Real 2019 took place from the 7th to 9th of October in Munich. It is the leading trade fair for real estate industry in Germany, and the capital region remains a sought-out location for investment. FBB has been participating for years as a co-exhibitor at the joint Berlin Brandenburg stand, and alongside others they advertise for investment in the airport region.

FBB has a considerable amount to offer, especially after the opening of BER: an Airport City is set to be built, consisting of three districts. One district found directly at Willy-Brandt-Platz is already by and large completed. An office and hotel building have been built here, alongside several car parks. The office building is already fully let, and preparatory construction measures for a second hotel are underway. Just one construction site remains free. After the opening of the new airport, the focus will be on the district “Midfield Gardens”, found between the two runways. The economic real estate development here is being launched in an area of six construction sites. Sales will begin after the opening of the new airport in autumn 2020 with investors and project developers being involved early on. A third district, “Airgate”, the gate to BER, is situated close to the motorway access and will be marketed afterwards.

New Districts Directly at BER

At the new BER, you will not find cities filled only with offices. It is much more about mixed use in the new districts: offices, hotels, and conference buildings will be supplemented by restaurants and cultural institutions, in order to offer future tenants a high quality of stay. In addition, the motorway and railway will offer the best connection to the city.

The airport company intends to market its areas of development predominantly free of commission by means of competition. The deciding factors in the allocation of construction sites include an exciting project idea, the utilisation concept, as well as a submission of tender for ground rent and purchase price, which the FBB will then decide whether to accept. The competition proceedings are open for anyone interested and authorised by way of prequalification.

This marketing also generated great interest at Expo Real. Time and time again, questions were asked about sales and building rights.
