Fly direct to the Saarland daily with DAT

22.01.2020
DAT ATR 72-600

The Danish airline DAT flies to Saarbrucken from Berlin three times a day, Monday to Friday. On Saturday, the route is flown once and on Sunday, it’s flown twice a day. The route is primarily for commuters travelling in the direction of Berlin, but the new offer is also interesting for Berliners and Brandenburgers. Saarbrucken has a lot to offer for culture as well as nature lovers. With its location being directly on the French and Luxembourg border, destinations in both neighbouring countries can be quickly reached from Saarbrucken.
DAT, short for Danish Air Transport, seamlessly took over the route from Luxair at the beginning of the year and is now flying to Tegel Airport.

Worth seeing from above and below

Saarbrucken is small but absolutely worth seeing: medieval castle buildings, the baroque Ludwig Church and the City Castle characterise the city on the Saar. The view from the town hall tower offers a fantastic first panoramic view. From a height of 55 metres, and in good weather, you can even see as far as France, which is only 3.5 kilometres away. The City Castle as well as the casemates located 14 meters below the Castle Square are also worth visiting. The impressive underground castle structures were only uncovered and opened to the public a few years ago. After the sightseeing tour, the pretty, old town invites you to stay and stroll. The central meeting point for Saarbruckers is here, at the St. Johanner Market Square, where you can find the weekly market as well as numerous shops and cafés.

Natural beauty in the Saarland

The smallest federal state of Germany has a lot to offer for holidaymakers: as a hiking and biking paradise, the region is loved by outdoor enthusiasts. For example, the Saar bike path leads along numerous sights, including the region’s landmark, the Saar Loop. From the Cloef viewing platform in the nearby treetop trail, you have a fantastic view of one of the most beautiful river landscapes in Germany. A special highlight of a trip to the Saarland is the Völklingen Ironworks. The disused, completely preserved ironworks is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and combines industrial culture with modern art in a unique way. Large concerts, cultural events and high-quality art exhibitions are presented here in a gigantic setting.
