At its first meeting in 2019, the airport company’s Supervisory Board continued its in-depth discussions about the completion of BER. As in the previous Supervisory Board meetings, the experts of the airport company and the external experts of TÜV Rheinland reported on the progress of the audits.

The elimination of deficiencies and the inspections are developing positively. The interaction tests of plant groups that had already been completed were also positive. The timing of the impact principle tests remains unchanged. The construction completion notice is expected in autumn 2019.

The completion of the fire alarm system and the progress of the cable trades for the safety power supply and the safety lighting continue to be the special focus of the building organisation. The dates predicted by the experts from TÜV and the construction organisation at FBB for the completion of the work in these trades are now more similar. The Supervisory Board and the construction staff of the airport company still expect the BER to go into operation in October 2020. Further reserves are available.

In the management’s report on further important company topics, the traffic study published this week by the Cottbus Chamber of Industry and Commerce was also mentioned. The management emphasized that the passenger volume at the airport itself is only a small part of the current and future growth of traffic in the airport region. Less than 10 percent of the total traffic in the vicinity of the airport is caused by passengers arriving and departing.

The management also reported to the Supervisory Board that the ORAT process had been launched in line with the 24-month milestone. The ORAT core programme will start in April 2020.

Rainer Bretschneider, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: "We are moving forward. Even though not every step is completed on the dot, we are making good progress at BER. We are looking very closely at the work on BER and are very well informed about the status of completion in the individual trades. In this respect, today's meeting has encouraged us to continue to adhere to the opening date scheduled for October 2020".

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, Chairman of the Management Board of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: "Some of our service providers have once again made progress in recent weeks. Adherence to schedules and the quality of processing have noticeably increased in the case of fire alarm systems. The successful interaction tests of recent weeks show that we are on the right track. This is the level to be maintained in the coming months."
