Schönefeld airport

Schönefeld Airport served as the main airport of East Germany from 1945 until the fall of the Wall with connections to the Eastern Bloc. In the 20 years after Die Wende, it rapidly developed into an up-and-coming airport for low-cost airlines. In 2011, the airport handled more than seven million passengers.

Alongside Germanwings, easyJet – Europe's fourth-biggest airline – was the number one in the low-cost segment at Schönefeld Airport. The airline has flown more than 21 million passengers from Schönefeld since 2004.
