FIFA World Cup trophy lands in Tegel

The FIFA World Cup trophy world tour – first stop on the Germany leg was Berlin-Tegel Airport. The most coveted football trophy in the world landed in TXL shortly after 10 a.m. on Saturday on board a McDonnell Douglas MD-83 with special livery. The trophy was met by Horst Eckel, Bernd Hölzenbein and Pierre Littbarski. The three world champions of 1954, 1974 and 1990 were also allowed to touch the 6.2-kilo, 18-carat gold trophy. For the prized trophy may only be handled by current or former World Cup champions and by the heads of government of World Cup nations.
