Aerial photographs of Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt (progress as of April 2012)

Published at 12.05.2012 / Berlin
With Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt, all air traffic to and from Germany’s capital and the surrounding area will be concentrated on South-East Berlin. The new airport’s IATA code is BER – three letters which also serve as the new airport’s trademark. BER safeguards the Berlin-Brandenburg region’s aviation infrastructure and replaces the existing airport system. Tempelhof Airport closed down back on 30 October 2008 in step one of the project, and Tegel Airport will cease to operate when the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport opens. BER is a modern airport with a convenient layout; the two runways run parallel to one another with the terminal located in the middle. It will be a new-generation airport: functional and cosmopolitan with modern architecture.
