Closure of the south runway at Schoenefeld
12.10.07 13:13Berlin Airports is asking all residents for their understanding with regard to unavoidable noise pollution, especially during the night. The north runway will be closed for good, as planned, at the end of 2007.
In case the north runway is unapproachable due to weather conditions falling below the minima, the supreme aviation authority of Berlin has ruled that the airports Tegel and Tempelhof may be used as alternative runways for landing between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. while Schoenefeld is completely closed. Permission is subject to strict conditions and must be obtained from air traffic control at Tegel. Special authorisation applies to Air Berlin, Condor, Germanwings, EasyJet and UPS. Theoretically, up to six flights per night could be affected.
