A unique running event around Europe’s largest airport construction site: the AirportRun 2008 starts on 29 June
23.05.08 13:30As they run, participants of the two races can follow the progress that has been made on the new BBI airport, where much has happened since the last AirportRun.
This year’s starting shot will be fired on the construction site. At 9:00 am the athletes set off across the construction site, which is the size of 2,000 football pitches, past the runways to Rotberg, Tollkrug and Selchow, finishing on the meadow in front of the administrative offices of Schoenefeld Airport. The 10km race follows the same course as the half-marathon event.
The AirportRun race is also a great opportunity for non-competitors to take a look at what’s been happening at the airport. There will be free tours of the site for all visitors and spectators, as well as a varied entertainment programme with an award ceremony and a raffle for the runners.
The Second AirportRun last year attracted over 1,700 athletes, and the event has firmly established itself in Berlin’s sporting calendar. The event attracted around 4,000 athletes and spectators.
Athletes can register for the event at the administrative offices of Schoenefeld Airport, where the registration desk is clearly signposted. Shuttle buses will be provided to take runners to the starting point on the BBI site. The registration deadline for the Third AirportRun ends on 14 June 2008. Last-minute registrations will be accepted on the day of the race from 7:00 am until shortly before the race starts.
