Rail summit in Berlin: agreement on BBI rail link / AirportExpress every 20 minutes
Berlin Airports welcomes the clear course set at today’s rail summit in Berlin with the governing mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, and the CEO of Deutsche Bahn, Dr. Rüdiger Grube, for establishing a good rail link at the new Capital Airport Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI). Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz, CEO of Berlin Airports: “We have made huge progress today. Deutsche Bahn will make establishing a good rail link at the new BBI Airport a top priority. We all agree on the common goal: BBI needs a presentable, customer-friendly rail link operating at regular intervals. The optimal route via the Dresden rail link into Berlin’s city centre will not be up and running in time for the opening of the airport in 2011. We have now agreed with Deutsche Bahn on operating an AirportExpress every 20 minutes on the alternative route via the Anhalt railway. A joint task force is also being set up to work on integrating BBI optimally into intercity rail traffic.”
