Statement concerning an article in today’s B.Z. newspaper: “Bosses to get bonuses even though the airport will not open until 2013 (or later)”

In today’s issue, the tabloid newspaper B.Z. published an article headlined “Bosses to get bonuses even though the airport will not open until 2013 (or later)”; the article mentions alleged bonus payments to the airport directors Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz and Dr. Manfred Körtgen (until June 2012).

Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH wishes to make the following statement regarding this article:

  1. The allegation that the supervisory board promised both managing directors a bonus of around €38,000 each “as late as December 2011” is false.
  2. Hence it follows that the allegation made in the article that bonuses were paid in December 2011 “even though it was already clear that there were problems with the fire safely systems” is also false.
  3. It is not true that bonuses for 2011 for the two managing directors were “paid to the accounts of the two directors in 2011”.
  4. The allegation that the two managing directors would have each received additional success bonuses worth €50,000 each” when the airport opened on 3 June 2012 is also false.

The airport management company intends to take appropriate action against this article.
