Statement concerning today’s newspaper coverage: Airport management company rejects allegations in Tagesspiegel and Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten

27.06.12 14:13

The Tagesspiegel newspaper (TSP; “BER defends bonuses for managers”) and the Potsdamer Neueste Nachrichten (PNN; “Platzeck kept quiet about BER bonuses”) today reported about alleged bonus payments to the airport managing directors Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz and Dr. Manfred Körtgen (until June 2012). Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) wishes to make the following statement concerning these articles:

The airport management company rejects the allegation that “the bonuses […] were approved on 20 April 2012 by the supervisory board headed by the heads of local governments Klaus Wowereit and Matthias Platzeck” (TSP). Furthermore, the allegation is false that “the supervisory board of the airport management company (FBB) […] in April approved generous bonus payments to the managing directors despite being aware of the risk posed to the opening of the new airport BER in Schoenefeld” (PNN).

The airport management company wishes to refute these allegations as factual errors. The true facts are:

At the supervisory board meeting in April 2012 no bonus payments to the managing directors of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH were approved. The bonus payments that were discussed were the “performance bonuses” for the year 2010 and they were approved and paid in mid-2011. In its meeting in April 2012 the supervisory board passed the annual financial statements for 2011 (see 2011 Annual Report) and proposed that the shareholders should formally approve the board of management’s actions in fiscal year 2011 and release them.

Hence the allegation that the “information provided by the airport concerning the bonuses […] are in direct contradiction to an answer provided by government head Plazeck’s spokesman […]” (TSP) is also false.

The airport management company warns against false and misleading reporting.
