BER fire protection tests under way: first hot gas smoke tests a success

04.12.12 14:06
As announced, the airport company today started a series of tests on the fire protection system at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The five hot gas smoke tests carried out in the terminal were a success. Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., artificial fog was heated on Departures Level E1 in the northern part of the main pier. This was able to be vented manually, as planned, through the smoke extraction flaps.

Horst Amann, COO of Berlin Brandenburg Airport: "Today's tests are the first step in the right direction. This shows that smoke can be extracted mechanically in the scenario tested."

A detailed evaluation of the tests will take place in the coming weeks. A total of 30 trial runs are expected to be carried out by the end of February, in order to prove that the smoke extraction system is fully functioning.
