Traffic report for March 2013: More passengers, less flight movements

At 14,565, the number of flight movements in Schönefeld was down 11.9 per cent on the year, while the number of flight movements in Tegel increased by 1.1 per cent compared to the previous year. A total of 38,055 flight movements were recorded in Tegel in the first three months of the year.
Schönefeld and Tegel Airport recorded 7,330 tonnes of air freight in the first quarter of 2013; 2.1 per cent less than in the same period the previous year.
Hartmut Mehdorn, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: 'The Berlin airports Schönefeld and Tegel welcomed a total of 5.5 million passengers in the first quarter – representing a good two per cent increase. We can be proud of these figures – especially given the limited capacities in Tegel. Over the next few weeks and months, €20 million will be invested in improving the functionality and appearance of Schönefeld and Tegel to ensure both airports run smoothly until BER goes into operation.'
