Running Off Into the Sunset

On Saturday, 12 April, Berlin Brandenburg Airport will become the race course for about 4,000 runners for the eighth time. Participants in the Airport Night Run will race over the BER South Runway and the apron with a view of the terminal, Pier South and the tower. The athletes can choose between a half-marathon and a 10-kilometre course. The starting pistol for the first race will be fired at 7 p.m. Registrations are still possible on short notice.
“The Airport Night Run has become a regular date on the race calendar of many runners,” says Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. “BER, especially the illuminated South Runway, provide a unique race experience in the evening hours. We wish all of the runners the greatest success in achieving their personal goals.”

Course over the new South Runway

Just as last year, the Airport Night Run will be held in the evening. The lighting on South Runway and the aprons as well as the light in the terminal promise a very special atmosphere in the twilight. There will be three races: a half-marathon over a distance of 21.0975 kilometres, a 10-kilometre race and a 10-kilometre power walking event. The half-marathon begins at 7 p.m.; the runners over the 10-kilometre course will step up to the starting line at 8 p.m. Awards will be given to the best runners in the three events, but there will also be an award for the companies with the best time and the most participants.

Directions and on-site service

The event area is in the Service Area South of Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The buildings for the ground traffic services, the Fire Brigade East and the technology centre are located here. A short stage programme will be presented for visitors during the race. Refreshments will also be provided. Dressing rooms and showers will be provided to the runners. It is possible for people to bring their cars because parking spaces will be available on the site. However, we recommend car-pooling or taking public transport. Shuttle buses will run between the S-Bahn train station Berlin-Schönefeld Airport and the event grounds between 3 p.m. and midnight.

Visitors and companions can cheer the runners on at the starting and finish lines in the Service Area South. It will, however, not be possible to accompany them on the course.
