Karsten Mühlenfeld will be appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. The corresponding decision was taken today at the meeting of the Supervisory Board. The current Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Rainer Bretschneider, commented: "We are very pleased that we are able to recruit Karsten Mühlenfeld as the new head of Berlin’s airports. He is an outstanding manager with broad experience in the industry sector. I am confident that he will be able to lead FBB into the future."
Mühlenfeld will be taking up his post as soon as possible. The 51-year-old manager is the successor to Hartmut Mehdorn, who in December 2014 had announced that he would be standing down. During his presentation to the public, Mühlenfeld said: "I am looking forward to the coming tasks. Berlin Brandenburg Airport is the most important future project for the Berlin-Brandenburg region. Important phases have already been completed. Now we need to make the airport company fit for the future and, following all the crises and problems in the past, to ensure that the airport can regain more public acceptance."
On behalf of the entire Supervisory Board, State Secretary Bretschneider expressed his sincere thanks to the outgoing CEO Hartmut Mehdorn for his major commitment with both heart and mind. "We certainly didn’t always make things easy for ourselves, but now we’re on a clear course and I thank Hartmut Mehdorn expressly for this," said the State Secretary.
