Automated bag drop: New service for passengers at Schönefeld

At Berlin-Schönefeld, passengers can now check in their luggage independently. 18 self-service kiosks and eight baggage handling machines have been installed in Terminal B. The new two-stage procedure is now available to easyJet passengers as a first step. The automated bag drop will then be successively expanded and opened to all airlines in the future.

"The self-service bag drop is helping us to increase check-in capacities, accelerate airport procedures and thus reduce check-in waiting times. We expect the new service to help tensions ease especially during peak travel times as it helps to improve passenger processes. We are pleased that we were able to launch this service with easyJet as our partner. The next step will involve other airlines being able to offer this service to their customers".

Check in baggage independently in a two-step process
The first station, the self-service kiosk, is used to register the baggage and print the baggage label. The passengers place their baggage on the scales and then scan the QR code on their printed or mobile boarding pass under the scanner. The baggage machine checks the weight of the bag according to the booking and prints a self-adhesive baggage label which the passengers attach to their bags.


At the bag drop station, passengers place their baggage on the belt. The baggage label and weight are checked entirely automatically before the baggage is taken away via the baggage conveyor system. The printed or mobile boarding pass serves as proof of checked baggage.
