Berlin’s airports saw a record number of passengers for 2019. 35,645,005 passengers were processed through Schönefeld and Tegel between January and December 2019, which is a 2.6 per cent increase compared to 2018 figures. This is from the provisional figures from the traffic report.

24,227,570 passengers passed through Tegel in 2019, which is an increase of 10.1 per cent compared to the previous year. In contrast, passenger figures fell at Schönefeld compared to the previous year. 11,417,435 passengers took off and landed at Schönefeld, a drop of 10.3 per cent compared to 2018.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “We have reached a new record for passenger numbers yet again in Berlin with a total of 35.65 million passengers, of which 11.42 million were at Schönefeld and 24.23 million were in Tegel. As a result, Berlin as an aviation destination has reached a record number of passengers for the ninth year in succession. I would like to express my deepest gratitude and respect to all staff involved in ground handling services, the airlines, and at the airport. Everyone has handled this increase in passengers superbly with the ageing infrastructure we have.”

Despite the record number of passengers, the number of passengers compared to the same month last year has decreased for December. A total of 2,606,366 passengers passed through Berlin airports, which was a drop of 6.7 per cent compared to December 2018. Tegel saw 1,766,707 passengers, which was a fall of 4.8 per cent compared to the same month last year. Schönefeld saw 839,659 passengers, which was a fall of 10.5 per cent compared to December 2018.

21,187 aircrafts landed and took off from both Berlin airports during December 2019. Tegel saw 14,308 take-offs and landings, whilst Schönefeld had 6,879.
