23.01.20 11:50

Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH has joined the Coalition Against Homophobia. The aim of the coalition, made up of 125 members, is to combat discrimination of any form based on sexual identity and to set an example of understanding and respect towards lesbians, gays, bisexuals and the trans community. The coalition’s patron is Berlin Mayor Michael Müller.

Dr. Manfred Bobke-von Camen, Chief Human Resources Officer at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “Berlin is a liberal-minded, colourful metropolis. At our airports in Schönefeld and Tegel, we welcome tens of thousands of passengers from across the world every day. People from different backgrounds, cultures, of different sexual identities and of every age. Most of them full of anticipation ahead of their trip to Berlin or their destinations across the world. Our passengers do not only enrich us as a company, but the whole metropolitan area. We want to express this social prosperity by joining the ‘Coalition Against Homophobia’ and take a clear stand in favour of mutual understanding and respect.”

The Berlin airports broke a new record for passenger numbers in 2019. 35,645,005 passengers were processed at Schönefeld and Tegel between January and December 2019.

“We’re pleased to be able to welcome such a significant Berlin company in the mobility sector to the Coalition Against Homophobia. The Berlin airports are sending an important message to passengers across the world with their joining the coalition,” says Jörg Steinert, Managing Director of the Lesben- und Schwulenverband Berlin-Brandenburg (LSVD) (Lesbian and Gay Association Berlin-Brandenburg).

In order to actively combat homophobia, the LSVD, the association responsible for the founding of BÜNDNIS GEGEN HOMOPHOBIE, is putting the coalition in place as part of the “Berlin taking steps in favour of self-determination and acceptance of gender and sexual variety” (IGSV) initiative, and is doing so on behalf of the Berlin State Office for Equal Treatment and Against Discrimination which part of the Senate Department for Justice, Consumer Protection and Anti-Discrimination.
