Fewer places for BER testers / Corona pandemic leads to changes to trial run

08.06.20 15:45

In view of the current hygiene regulations in connection with the corona pandemic, the BER trial run with volunteers has been adapted. Previous bookings are invalid. A new procedure with a reduced number of participants will be carried out. The reason for this is a requirement from the public health department according to which the number of participants, employees and volunteers, must be reduced. To ensure that all employees can become familiar with their new workplace, more trial runs will, therefore, be carried out exclusively with participants from the airport company and partner companies. By contrast, the number of voluntary testers is being reduced; only 9,000 voluntary positions can be offered instead of 20,000.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “The corona pandemic not only poses new challenges for flight operations, but also for trial runs at BER. Health and safety are our main priority. This does not only apply to the test phase. Distancing and hygiene regulations in flight operations will probably be in place for a long time. Unfortunately, these conditions mean that we can only offer about half the planned volunteers the opportunity to get to know BER before it is commissioned. Nevertheless, we will ensure a sufficient test phase so that we can safely and reliably put BER into operation on 31 October”.

All participants that are already registered for the trial run will be informed about the changes by email. In order to ensure that the remaining places are allocated as fairly as possible, all registrations will be deleted and the remaining dates with reduced places will be released for booking again. To begin with, all participants with a confirmed trial run day will be given the opportunity to re-register first with priority. Participants on the waiting lists will then be informed. Only after these application phases are complete will registration become generally accessible again.
