Frequently asked questions

  • What's the quickest way to reach Berlin city centre?
By regional trains RE7 and RB14 (Airport Express) – an approx. 30-minute ride from the city centre, e.g. Berlin-Alexanderplatz, Berlin-Hauptbahnhof or Berlin-Zoologischer Garten. You can also take the S-Bahn (S9) and change at Ostkreuz.
  • How long does it take from the airport to Berlin city centre?
It takes 30 minutes from the airport to Alexanderplatz and 45 minutes from the airport to Zoologischer Garten with the Airport Express. City Centre East can be reached by S-Bahn in approx. 45 minutes.
  • Which fare zone applies and how much is a ticket from Berlin Schönefeld Airport to Berlin city centre?

Berlin Schönefeld Airport is located in fare zone C. For a journey from Schönefeld to the city centre (S-Bahn ring line), you will need a ticket that is valid for fare zone ABC. A summary of current fare prices is available at www.vbb.de.

  • Where can I buy tickets?

You can buy tickets for local public transport at the ticket machines in Terminals A & D, at the S-Bahn ticket counter in Terminal A, and at the numerous ticket machines in the train station (in the pedestrian underpass and on the platforms). Please remember to validate your ticket before beginning your journey! On buses you can buy tickets from the driver, but this is not possible on the S-Bahn or regional trains. The tickets sold by Verkehrsverbund Berlin Brandenburg (Berlin Brandenburg public transport association) are valid for use on all public transport (S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains, regional trains, buses, and trams). This ticket, however, is not valid for travel on long-distance train services.

  • Can I use a single ticket for further travel in the city?
No, a single ticket is valid for a maximum of two hours and entitles you to travel with any number of changes towards your destination via the usual travel route or one necessitated by network alterations.

If you plan to continue travelling around the city on public transport, we recommend buying a day ticket or a group ticket.

  • Is there a tourist ticket?
Visitors to Berlin can purchase the Berlin CityTourCard or the Berlin WelcomeCard. These are valid for different periods of time. In addition to free travel on public transport, the cards give you discounts on various cultural highlights and sightseeing attractions.
  • How long does it take to walk from the railway station to the terminal?
The terminal is just a five-minute walk from the railway station via a covered walkway.
  • I rely on barrier-free travel and want to make use of the relevant services for my journey. What should I bear in mind for this?

Please note that for your arrival or departure by train, you must request the mobility and support service (PRM-Service) both at the national train service (Deutsche Bahn) as well as at the airport. For this, you should make a detailed plan, as the respective responsibilities of the train service providers are confined to the station.
